PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier capable of amplifying green light by excitation light with a wavelength of 390-430 nm. SOLUTION: An ethanol solution of 0.5 mass% of terbium(III)trisacetylacetonate(Tb(acac)<SB>3</SB>) is prepared, and the ultraviolet visible absorption spectrum of the solution is measured. Transmissivity when the ethanol solution of Tb(acac)<SB>3</SB>with a concentration of 2 mass% is transmitted by 10 cm and transmissivity when the ethanol solution of Tb(acac)<SB>3</SB>with a concentration of 6 mass% is transmitted by 3 cm are estimated from the measured value. The result is shown in the figure. The transmissivity with a wavelength 400 nm is estimated to be approximately 4-6%. From the result, it is predicted that pump light with a wavelength of 390-430 nm can be efficiently absorbed. An optical fiber hardened by filling a glass tube with an acrylic monomer including terbium(III)tris(3,5-heptane dionate)(Tb(HPD)<SB>3</SB>) dispersed with a concentration of 10 mass% obtains a gain of 0.7 dB for signal light with a wavelength of 548 nm when a quantity of pump light with a wavelength of 405 nm is 27 mW.
