PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a book having a letter or a pattern formed at least at one place of the top edge, the bottom and the fore edge being cut faces, without requiring extra cost or trouble. SOLUTION: In the book having the top edge, the bottom and the fore edge finished by cutting, a solid mark m is printed beforehand so that it extends to the type-page end part of each page S, and the solid marks m of the pages S are connected by the cutting so that they represent the letter or the pattern. Thereby the letter or the pattern is formed at least at one place of the top edge, the bottom and the fore edge. Since only addition of the solid mark to the region positioned at the type-page end of each page is needed on the occasion of preparing a printing plate, any special equipment for printing by ink jet or others and any extra working process are not needed, and the letter or the pattern can be given to the cut face at an extremely low cost.
