<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a palladium-bimetal cation exchange montmorillonite which acts as a catalyst for oxidation reaction or the like in the manufacture of carbonyl compounds useful for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals. <P>SOLUTION: The montmorillonite has palladium cations and bimetal cations to be carried and adsorbed, wherein the bimetal cation comprises iron ions or copper ions.
