摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of preventing increase in error between the estimated sedimentation quantity of fine particulate substances around a catalyst and the actual sedimentation quantity which is caused by an interruption of PM regeneration control. <P>SOLUTION: When an estimated PM sedimentation quantity around a catalyst is permissible value or more, PM regeneration control for burning and removing PM sedimented around a catalyst is executed. When the PM regeneration control is interrupted and brought into a workable condition thereafter, the PM regeneration control is resumed even though the PM sedimentation quantity is less than the permissible value. By resuming the PM regeneration control, the PM sedimented around a catalyst can be burned up until the control is completed. When the PM is burned up to complete the PM regeneration control, the estimated PM sedimentation quantity is set at '0' to eliminate the error between the PM sedimentation quantity and the actual sedimentation quantity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
