PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control catalyst having improved heat resistance and oxygen storing capacity, and to provide metal oxide particles and a production method of the metal oxide particles.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates to: metal oxide particles having a central part (1) with the number of moles of alumina and silica larger than that of ceria, and a surface layer (2) with the number of moles of ceria larger than the total number of moles of alumina and silica; the exhaust emission control catalyst containing the metal oxide particles and a noble metal carried thereon; and the production method of the metal oxide particles.
