<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing excessive temperature rise of a collector at next regeneration by reducing incomplete burning in a collector of fine particulate substances. <P>SOLUTION: In a diesel engine 10, an exhaust passage 14 is equipped with a second catalyst converter 33 for collecting fine particulate substances exhausted from the engine 10. An exhaust emission control device 11 supplies unburned fuel to the exhaust passage 14 from an exhaust fuel adding valve 31 so as to burn and remove fine particulate substances sedimented on the second catalyst converter 33, thereby regenerating the second catalyst converter 33. In the exhaust emission control device 11, the sedimentation quantity of fine particulate substances in the second catalyst converter 33 is estimated on the basis of operating condition of the engine 10. On the basis of the estimated sedimentation quantity, completion of burning and removal of fine particulate substances is predicted. After predicting the completion, unburned fuel is intermittently supplied to the exhaust passage 14 from the exhaust fuel adding valve 31. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
