PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent waste ink from leaking to the interior of a recording apparatus and prevent nozzles of a recording head from being clogged while the apparatus is clear of a waste ink tank. SOLUTION: When an ink cartridge cover 39 is opened, a head suction motor drive prohibition instruction for deterring drive of a pump motor 76 for driving a head suction means 81 is output (step S7). Until a head suction motor drive permission instruction is input again from a cover open/close state detection unit 72, a pump motor control unit 73 deters the forward rotation drive control of a pump motor 76 even when a head suction motor drive instruction is output from an ink system control unit 74. Meanwhile, when a CR lock motor drive instruction is output from the ink system control unit 74 during that period (step S9), and when a head sealing motor drive instruction is output (step S11), the pump motor 76 is controlled by reverse rotation drive from the instruction.
