PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which hardly generates a tile-shaped pattern due to a photolithography process and has higher display performance than before. SOLUTION: In the center of a TFT-substrate side pixel electrode 116, a slit 116a parallel to a gate bus lines 111 is formed. On a counter-substrate side, a projection 124 is formed. This projection 124 comprises a projection 124a arranged along the left edge of the upper half part of the pixel electrode 116, a projection 124b which horizontally extends from the center of the projection 124a, a projection 124c which is arranged along the right edge of the lower half part of the pixel electrode 116, and a projection 124d which horizontally extends from the center of the projection 124c. Liquid crystal molecules 130a are aligned at nearly 45°to the projection 124 and the edges of the pixel electrode 116. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
