METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORMING AREA GRADATION IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an area gradation image forming method and an area gradation image forming apparatus capable of surely detecting unevenness generated in an area gradation image inexpensively and roughly along with changing tone of a secondary color into a tone different from a combination of primary different colors.

SOLUTION: An image forming method forms a proof image (hereinafter referred to as an "image") formed of a plurality of colors and expressed by area gradation. In this method, image data of the image are created (steps S2-S3); color tone of at least any one of blue (B), green (G) and red (R) which are secondary colors among color characteristic information concerning characteristics of colors of dots forming the image, is changed into a color tone different from a combination of primary colors to acquire the color characteristic information (step S7); periodic characteristic information of the image is acquired on the basis of the image data and the color characteristic information (step S8); and information of unevenness generated in the image is detected on the basis of the periodic characteristic information (step S9).
