PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder and a document reading device in which a platen cover is easily opened/closed by providing a handle at a position easy to operate for a user, and reliability is improved by arranging the handle to have a sufficient strength and to hardly break after long-time use. SOLUTION: An automatic document feeder 1 is attached onto a platen cover 3 that is positioned in an upper portion of a casing of a document reading section 2 and can be opened/closed relative to the casing. This automatic document feeder 1 includes a document stacker 5 wherein documents 10 can be piled up, an exterior body structure 17 in which the document stacker 5 is mounted so as to be opened/closed, and a handle 6 that is integrally provided on the exterior body structure 17 and positioned in front of the document stacker 5, and a space between the document stacker 5 and the platen cover 3 becomes a document ejection section 8.
