PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop an apparatus for treating ammonia which does not require addition of an alkaline chemical liquid even if a hydrogen halide is generated when decomposing ammonia by a hypohalogen oxide. SOLUTION: The apparatus for treating ammonia is constituted of mainly an adsorbent-housing unit 1, a treating liquid-housing unit 2 housing an ammonia treating liquid 21 containing the hypohalogen oxide as an oxidizing agent, a liquid feed pump 3 for circulating the ammonia treating liquid 21 between the adsorbent-housing unit 1 and the treating liquid-housing unit 2, and a hydrogen halide removing unit 6. The hydrogen halide removing unit 6 is constituted of a water vessel 62, a negative electrode 63, a positive electrode 64, a plurality of hydrogen ion permeation membranes 65 and a plurality of halogen ion permeation membranes 66, and the space between the negative electrode 63 and the positive electrode 64 is partitioned by the hydrogen ion permeation membranes 65 and the halogen ion permeation membranes 66.
