DESICCANT DEVICE

Disclosed is a desiccant device or desiccant bag designed to protect packing against humidity, for example during the transport of goods by container, or for the dehumidification of homes, vehicles and any environment that requires the humidity present to be reduced. The desiccant device is constituted by a bag made of material which is permeable to steam but impermeable to liquids, and a mixture consisting of one or more deliquescent or hygroscopic desiccant materials and one or more substances with the function of thickening the liquid obtained from liquefaction of the diliquescent desiccant salt. The desiccant mixtures according to the invention improve the stability of the steam adsorption process compared with the use of a pure hygroscopic salt with no thickener. These mixtures must allow the manufacture of bags and desiccant devices which can be safely handled. The desiccant device according to the invention may also contain chemicals which indicate the depletion of its desiccating activity by means of a colour change. Different shades of colour of the material contained in the bag indicate the different degrees of depletion of the desiccating power of the bag.
