PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which hardly generates density unevenness in an image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a photoreceptor 21 which rotates while carrying a toner and gently abuts at a transfer part T1 against an image carrier belt 51 made of material enabling both side parts 51c of the belt 51 to be deformed permanently and has a hard surface, wherein inequality Wb>Wt is satisfied where Wb is the length between inner ends 51c1 and 51c1' of the permanently deformed part 51c and Wt is the abutting length of the photoreceptor 21 against the belt 51 in the width direction of the belt 51. In the width direction of the belt 51, the permanently deformed part 51c of the belt 51 is made free at the transfer part T1 and the deformed part 51c abuts against the photoreceptor 21 to be corrected, thereby suppressing unevenness of abutting pressure in an image formation region A.
