PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a phosphonic acid ester that bears an atom constituting a conjugated structure of a conjugated system compound on a phosphorus atom in a phosphorous ester through a catalytic radical reaction. SOLUTION: A phosphorous acid ester represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>a</SP>, R<SP>b</SP>are each H or an organic group) and a conjugated system compound in which at least one of hydrogen atom is connected to an atom constituting the conjugated structure are allowed to react with each other in the presence of a catalyst of a compound of an element in the group 5 to 9 in the periodic table as well as oxygen to produce a phosphonic ester in which at least one of hydrogen atom in the conjugated structure is substituted with a phosphoryl group represented by formula (2) [wherein R<SP>a</SP>, R<SP>b</SP>are the same as those in formula (1)].
