PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating cyanogen in organic matter-containing sludge, by which the cyanogen being a toxic substance, can be efficiently decomposed and detoxified without using chemicals, as regards the organic matter-containing sludge containing the cyanogen produced when a nitrogen-containing organic compound is heated or oxidized. SOLUTION: This method for treating cyanogen in organic matter-containing sludge comprises a step to add water to the organic matter-containing sludge containing cyanogen to obtain slurry and a step to warm the obtained slurry at 130-210°C while adjusting the pH of the slurry to≥9.
