The method involves detecting measurement values representing traffic data with traffic detectors (12,14) that define measurement cross-sections and that are associated with the section (10) of a route and determining the traffic situation from the measurement values using an analysis technique with which errors in the measurement evaluation process (20) are also detected. An independent claim is also included for a traffic management center.
