PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display technology whereby a high contrast can stably be obtained. SOLUTION: A contrast adjustment circuit is configured to discriminate a luminance region of a digital luminance signal subjected to A/D conversion to which a maximum luminance level within a prescribed period corresponds and a luminance region of the signal to which an average luminance level within the prescribed period corresponds, to adjust the contrast of a video image by changing the gain of the luminance signal on the basis of both the luminance regional information discriminated as above and to apply color density correction to the video image by changing the gain of a color signal.
