<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera for generating an object image and an image signal for displaying additional information with a simple structure, and an image signal generating method. <P>SOLUTION: A composite section 60 generates composite data D3 in which digital data indicating additional information to be displayed on an LCD 38 together with the object image are included during a period corresponding to a horizontal blanking period in a composite signal and digital data indicating the object image are included during a period corresponding to a video period in the composite signal. A digital encoder 62 and a DAC 64 mask the digital data included during the period corresponding to the horizontal blanking period of the composite data D3. A composite signal in which the horizontal synchronization signal and a color burst signal are superimposed during the horizontal blanking period is generated and supplied to a video output terminal 66.
