<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that increase in the strength of edge emphasis to obtain a sufficient sense of sharpness steepens edges but causes defects being factors of image quality deterioration due to overshoot and undershoot or the like, resulting in that the sufficient sense of sharpness cannot be obtained without deteriorating the image quality. <P>SOLUTION: The edge emphasis method includes the steps of: extracting a high frequency component of a received image; detects the edges from the high frequency component; and producing edge pixels by frequency analysis, frequency modulation, and edge production so as to obtain a high sense of sharpness without causing image quality deterioration even in the case of application of edge emphasis with high intensity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
