PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display device which projects image information based upon a liquid crystal panel on a screen while placing various functions in operation. SOLUTION: The projection type display device having a light source means, a light valve optically modulating luminous flux from the light source means based upon a video signal, and a projection lens projecting luminous flux modulated by the light valve on the screen further has an operation detection means of detecting whether or not at least one of functions that the projection type display device has is operating, wherein the quantity of light of the light source means is decreased when the operation detecting means detects at lest one function not operating for a specified time or longer.
