A separator consists of a sheet a of felted wood fibres to which ribs b of sintered thermoplastic resin powder are bonded. The ribs are made by passing the sheet on which is a layer of resin powder under a shaped roller or a serrated knife and then passing the sheet through an oven to sinter the resin. The sheet a may include glass, resin or other fibres and the resin forming the ribs may contain kieselguhr or other siliceous fillers. The sheet is made by a papermaking process and may be impregnated with thermosetting resins, rubber or other binders, and the finished ribbed sheets may be treated with a wetting agent. |
