[Also in Group VIII] An assembly of resin-impregnated wood side and end frame members and a central panel consisting of a layer of resin-impregnated compressible filling or insulating material arranged between inner sheets of resin-impregnated bonding material and outer sheets of resinimpregnated facing material is secured against lateral expansion and subjected to heat and pressure so as to bond the facings, bonding sheets, filling layer and side and end frame members together and to compress the filling layer to form a unitary door structure. The filling layer may be of wood fibres conglomerated with adhesive and impregnated with thermosetting or thermoplastic resins, or resinimpregnated cardboard-backed honeycomb material. As shown, Fig. 2, the frame members may comprise a flat portion 4 and an angle portion 41 which are united during the pressing operation to form a channel section member. The filling 1, bonding layers 2 of resin impregnated paper and facing layers 3 of resin-impregnated paper or veneer are assembled on a press plate 5 within the frame members. An additional press plate (not shown) large enough to compress the frame members as well as the central panel is used for the bonding operation. Fig. 5 shows a part section of a flush door in which the frame members 11 are of T-section material and the filling 8, bonding layers 9 and facing layers 10 are compressed to the same thickness as the frame members. The assembly is secured against lateral expansion by iron strap members which are clamped round the edges by for example screws engaging lugs on the members. These may be laminar or of angle or channel section materials.
