A base for receiving posts 110, 111 of fence panels comprises a hollow plastics shell filled with concrete, and defining at least one post hole 201, 202, 203, 204. The shell may be blow moulded, e.g. of polyethylene and sealed with a plug after filling with concrete. Weight - reducing apertures 205, 206 may be present.
