A digital pen 20 senses and creates a digital record of movement or use made of the pen which is stored in a memory 15, and can be downloaded to a memory tag (22, fig 5) on a page by a reader/writer 21. The reader/writer 21 is at the opposite end of the pen from a convention writing nib and only operates over a short distance (eg. 25 % power transfer at 1.8mm), so that a digital record is only downloaded when the reader/writer 21 is adjacent to the tag. Alternatively a switch on the pen or markings on the page may control when data is transmitted. Feedback of when transmission has been achieved may be by an LED, noise or vibration generator. The data transmitted may include standard data identifying the pen or user. A digital record may contain data from several pages. Movement may be sensed by a camera, and the pen includes a battery 16 and a processor 14. Tag and reader circuitry (fig 3) and suitable tag frequencies are disclosed. |
