The cylindrical end drive member (2), designed to be fixed to the end of a hollow camshaft (1) by resistance welding, has a deflector that fits inside the end of the camshaft without contact prior to welding. The deflector is tubular in shape with an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the camshaft and projects into the latter by at least 2 mm from the contact surface.
