Fire-resistant yarn comprises 70-90 wt.% flame-retarded polyvinyl alcohol fibers and 10-30 wt.% thermostable fibers made from a nonflammable material. An independent claim is also included for textiles for making protective clothing, comprising at least one textile layer woven or knitted from the fire-resistant yarn.
