A downhole setting tool to activate a downhole tool having a setting sleeve by setting down weight includes a body and at least one dog biased aw ay from the body and selectively retained to the body. The dog is removable at least once from the setting sleeve during release from the downhole tool so that upon setting down the body, the dog will not set weight down on the setting sleeve.
