A distributed wireless online access system comprises a plurality wireless units (110) forming primary wireless network, and plurality of secondary wireless units (160). Each primary unit may comprise a transmitter, receiver , and programmed processor for routing data packets. Each secondary unit may comprise a transmitter, receiver, and programmed processor for receiving, processing, generating, and transmitting data packets. A portal unit (170) m ay provide a connection or link between the primary wireless network and extern al communications system (such as Internet), thereby providing access to the external communications network to all primary and secondary wireless units. A provider of wireless online access may collect access fees from subscribers having primary and/or secondary wireless units and may pay provider revenue out to subscribers having primary wireless units. One or more primary units may be mobile, resulting in a transient primary wireless network having a dynamically varying network topology. |
