FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings on cutting tool, possibly at working metals. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of vacuum-plasma deposition of laminate coating on cutting tool; using for all layers of coating the same nitride or carbonitride of refractory metal or metal compound; depositing each next layer of coating at less condensation temperature in comparison with previous one. ^ EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cutting tool providing improved quality of working. ^ 1 tbl, 3 ex
