PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser device that can simultaneously achieve a resistance reduction and a threshold reduction. SOLUTION: The surface emitting laser device has a distributed Bragg reflector on which a plurality of laminated structures respectively provided with a GaAs layer 31 having a high refractive index, an Al<SB>0.9</SB>Ga<SB>0.1</SB>As layer 32 having a refractive index lower than that of the GaAs layer 31, and an intermediate layer is formed which is arranged between the GaAs layer 31 and Al<SB>0.9</SB>Ga<SB>0.1</SB>As layer 32 and has a refractive index between those of the layers 31 and 32. In the distributed Bragg reflector, the thickness of the intermediate layer is changed in accordance with the phase of the electric field intensity of laser light. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
