PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for detecting a disk drive of which the performance is degraded without a function for detecting performance degradation in the disk drive itself, and further constructing a disk array device responding to a customer request by varying a performance degradation level. SOLUTION: A disk controller 240 in the disk array device 100 is utilized for writing and reading data, generates a logical storage area for housing data with redundancy by using storage areas of a plurality of of disk drives, monitors a housing area for housing writing data or a reading request to the plurality of the disk drives regarding to the plurality of the disk drives for forming the logical storage areas, specifies the disk drive of which the number of repeat times of writing and reading of data out of the plurality of the disk drives for forming the logical storage areas, and blocks the specified disk drive.
