PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation image detector where residual charge in a photoelectric conversion layer is effectively eliminated in a short time while maintaining the performance of the photoelectric conversion layer as an indirect system radiation image detector using a radiographic panel whose photoelectric conversion layer is formed of a conductive organic compound, and to provide a residual charge eliminating method. SOLUTION: The radiation image detector 10 is equipped with a light emitting layer 111, the photoelectric conversion layer 112 and a signal fetching layer 113 on a base plate 114 in the radiographic panel 11, and is equipped with a control part 20 performing control to output a radiation image signal based on an outputted signal and also performing control to eliminate the residual charge of the photoelectric conversion layer after outputting the image signal by the application of electric field. It is constituted so that the applying time T(s) of the electric field applied to eliminate the residual charge may be 2×t≤T when interelectrode moving time t(s) is expressed by a following expression. The moving time t(s) is expressed by t(s) = the thickness L(cm) of the photoelectric conversion layer×the mobility of carrierμ<SP>-1</SP>(cm<SP>2</SP>×V<SP>-1</SP>×s<SP>-1</SP>)×electric field strength E<SP>-1</SP>(V×cm<SP>-1</SP>).
