PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable light to be optically coupled with an arbitrary part of an optical fiber with simple constitution without performing troublesome work. SOLUTION: An optical coupler is configured so that an optical fiber 1 is curved and held with a prescribed curvature (r) by two holding bodies 21, 25 and an optical waveguide 30 which is curved and formed to a direction opposite to that of optical fiber 1 is made to externally contact with the curved part 2 of the fiber 1 and light is made to be able to incident on the fiber and to be emitted from the fiber 1 through the contact part B. When light entering from one end side of the optical waveguide 30 propagates in the core 30a of the waveguide 30 and reaches the curved part 31 curved with the radius curvature (r), a part of the light is leaked to the tangential direction of the core 30a and it is passed through its clad 30b and sheath 30c and moreover it is made incident on the sheath 1c of the curved part 2 of the fiber 1 which is made to closely contact with the the sheath 30c and which has a refractive index equal to or near that of the sheath 30c and it is passed through a clad 1b to be made incident on the core 1a the fiber 1 along its tangential direction.
