PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance breaking efficiency and reduce sounds when rocks and concrete blocks or the like are broken. SOLUTION: The breaker 1 is provided with a cylindrical casing 2, a cylinder 3 provided so as to be capable of freely reciprocating along in the longitudinal direction of the casing 2, an acute-angled chisel part 4 formed to the tip of the cylinder 3, a sliding part 5 being the other end of the cylinder 3 and formed so as to have a larger diameter than the diameter of the cylinder 3, a hammer rod 6 which is provided so as to be capable of freely reciprocating in the casing 2 and drives the cylinder 3 by hammering the sliding part 5 at high speed, and a hydraulic switching valve 7 or the like. A prescribed static load is applied to the cylinder 3 and, consequently, to the chisel part 4 by oil pressure so as to bring the chisel part 4 into pressure contact with the rock 9 during breaking. Breaking is executed by hammering the cylinder 3 at high speed by the hammer rod 6.
