PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tread rubber composition which improves wet grip, rolling resistance, driving stability, abrasion resistance, and moldability highly in balance. SOLUTION: The tread rubber composition comprises (A) 100 pts. wt. diene rubber containing 10-100 wt.% styrene-butadiene rubber having hydroxy groups in the molecular chain, (B) 30-120 pts. wt. carbon black, and (C) 2-20 pts. wt. polyethylene glycol. The specific surface area by nitrogen adsorption of the carbon black (B) is 175-300 m<SP>2</SP>/g, the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide oil absorption is 155-250 ml/100g, the iodine adsorption is 150-330 mg/g, and the ratio of the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide oil absorption to the iodine adsorption is 0.85-1.20.
