<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst efficiently decomposing ammonia contained in an exhaust gas while suppressing by-production of nitrogen oxide and nitrous oxide. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for decomposing ammonia is constituted by sulfuric acid solution zirconia containing iron. In the catalyst, a ratio of iron is 1-20 prt.wt. based on 100 prt.wt. of zirconia. The ratio of sulfate groups may be 1-25 prt.wt. based on 100 prt.wt. of zirconia in terms of SO<SB>4</SB><SP>2-</SP>. When a gas to be treated containing ammonia is brought into contact with the catalyst at 400-600°C, ammonia in the gas to be treated can be decomposed and removed to nitrogen while suppressing by-production of nitrogen oxide and nitrous oxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
