PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element emitting blue color-based light, having a high luminescence efficiency and a long life, and a new metal complex compound capable of realizing the same. SOLUTION: This electroluminescent element supporting a metal complex compound containing sp<SP>2</SP>type P atom and an organic thin membrane consisting of at least one layer or in a plurality of layers having a luminescent layer between a pair of electrodes is provided with that at least one layer of the organic thin membrane layers contains the metal complex compound and the organic electroluminescent element emits light by impressing an electric voltage between the two electrodes.
