Weld seam/thermally sprayed layer`s quality determining method for e.g. land vehicle, involves using Echelle spectrometer to find grade of mixture of coated material relative to base material by analyzing spectral lines from surface plasma

The method involves analyzing spectral lines emitted by surface plasma, produced by a short pulse laser, using an Echelle spectrometer. Grade of mixture of coated material with respect to a base material is determined based on the analysis. The spectral lines are selected based on base and coated materials. Quality specific properties of the coated material are found based on the determined grade of mixture of the coated material. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a device for determining the quality of weld seam or a thermally sprayed layer (B) use of a method for determining the quality of a weld seam or a thermally sprayed layer in vehicle industry.
