<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alignment division vertical alignment type LCD capable of performing animation display bright and having high quality when an OS driving method is applied. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with a plurality of pixels each having a first electrode 11, a second electrode 12 opposed to the first electrode and a vertical alignment type liquid crystal layer 13 provided between the first and the second electrodes and has a rib 21 provided on the first electrode side of the liquid crystal layer and having a first width W1, a slit 22 provided on the second electrode side of the liquid crystal layer and having a second width W2 and a liquid crystal region 13A regulated between the rib and the slit and having a third width W3.
