<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for winding an optical fiber by which the turbulence of the winding state of a silicone coated optical fiber is prevented. <P>SOLUTION: The optical fiber winding apparatus 1 has a winding bobbin 3 for winding the silicone coated optical fiber 2 and a lubricant coater 5 for applying a powdery lubricant on the silicone coated optical fiber 2 before the silicone coated optical fiber 2 is wound on the winding bobbin 3. The lubricant coater 5 has a box type cover 13 covering the silicone coated optical fiber 2 and a through hole 13a for passing the silicone coated optical fiber is provided in the cover 13. A lubricant pressure feeder 14 for forcibly feeding the lubricant is connected to the cover 13 through a pressure feed pipe 15.
