<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition which does not suffer from resistivity fluctuation and decreased voltage retention and to provide a liquid crystal display element not suffering from contrast decrease and display defects caused by scattering due to wavelength in the visible region and the particle diameter and refractive index of microparticles. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises at least one liquid crystal compound and at least one type of microparticles. The liquid crystal compound is exemplified by a compound represented by formula (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each hydrogen, a 1 to 20C alkyl, a halogen, or the like; ring A is 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, or the like; Z is a single bond, a 1 to 4C alkylene, or the like; and m is 2, 3, or 4. The microparticles are exemplified by inorganic microparticles and have a maximum particle diameter of 0.2μm or smaller and a mean particle diameter of 0.001 to 0.1μm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
