PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission capable of taking a wide gear change ratio by reducing a diameter of a roller of a needle bearing supporting a disc. SOLUTION: In this toroidal type continuously variable transmission, at least one first radial bearing 5A is inserted between a gear 4 and an input shaft 1, and second radial bearings 5B are respectively inserted between each output-side disc 3 and the input shaft 1, whereby the number of radial bearings is increased in comparison with a conventional constitution where the radial bearing is mounted only between the output-side disc 3 and the input shaft 1. Here, a clearance X between the output-side disc 3 and the input shaft 1 at a position where the first radial bearing 5A is inserted is determined to be larger than a clearance Y between the output-side disc 3 and the input shaft 1 at a position where the second radial bearing 5B is inserted.
