PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor type excavation work vehicle capable of appropriate automatic control of loads on its rotor to avoid engine stall and of continuing uniform excavation work at a fixed excavation depth. SOLUTION: The excavation work vehicle is equipped with rotor load detecting means (51, 61) to detect excavation loads on a rotor (31) that has excavation means at its outer circumference, a rotor position detecting means (52) for detecting the vertical position of the rotor (31), and a controller (40) that controls the vehicle's excavation operation while it runs for excavation, i.e., its speed and rotor position, to automatically keep the excavation work to be done at a uniform depth, by outputting to an engine (3) or power transmissions (10, 20) signals to increase or decrease its speed or stop it based on the rotor excavation load and vertical position detected so that the rotor excavation load may be kept within a fixed range, and outputting to a rotor lift (33) signals to move the rotor up and down.
