An engine having an electric supercharger with a motor-driven compressor disposed in an intake passage on the upstream side of a throttle, wherein intake air is pressurized and compressed by the electric supercharger in idling and deceleration, the pressurized compressed air is stored in a pressure accumulation part formed in the intake passage between the compressor and the throttle, and when a large torque is required in acceleration, supercharging is performed by using the accumulated compressed air. Thus, a large output can be provided even if a displacement is small and a turbo lag, particularly, at low rotational speeds can be eliminated to improve operability, responsiveness, and fuel consumption.
