PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection fixture for installing a steel pipe pile capable of driving a steel pipe 1 without causing deformation or damage on a split piece 13 or a split piece 43 when a pipe connected with an inner joint pipe 10 having a plurality of the split pieces 13 having a diameter-decreasing function and a stepped part 12 for transmitting a compression force or with an outer joint pipe 40 having a plurality of the split pieces 43 having a diameter-increasing function and a stepped part 42 for transmitting a compression force is driven, and to provide a pipe installation method. SOLUTION: The protection fixture comprises a top end section 62 on which a drive force is applied when the steel pipe is driven, a tubular body 60 having a height exceeding the height from the stepped part 12 of the inner joint 10 to the top end section, a bottom end section 61 abutting against the stepped part 12 of the inner joint 10 for transmitting a driving force and a means 65 for fixing a plurality of the split pieces 13 of the inner joint 10.
