PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner made compact at low cost, capable of preventing deviation in a scanning position of a beam stably in time, and mounted on such image forming apparatuses as a copy machine, a facsimile, and a printer, to provide an image forming apparatus furnished with the optical scanner, and to provide an image forming apparatus in which color slurring and color changing are reduced and a high picture quality is realized even when the image forming apparatus is a multi-color image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The optical scanner 8 has supporting members 64 and 64 which are disposed opposing to each other in the main scanning direction with a beam, support at least optical elements 90 to 93 among a plurality of optical elements 88 to 93, and support a holding member 39, which holds a deflection member 94 which deflects the beam, in a way that a part of the holding member 39 is located out of the opposing region in a main scanning direction.
