PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil, the lead holder 6 of which can be easily mounted by a method for mounting the lead holder 6 at the front end of a lead guide 5 in order to lessen a remaining lead. SOLUTION: A pipe-like lead guide 5 is formed at the tip of the mechanical pencil. The tip 5A of the lead guide 5 is contracted diametrically and, at the same time, an inward projection 5B is formed at the proper position of the lead guide 5 by applying a force from outside.
