A system and method for sorption and desorption of molecular gas contained by storage sites of graphite nano-filaments randomly disposed in three-dimensional reticulated aerogel. The molecular gas is constrained at storage sites provided as randomly disposed inter-engaged nanostructures in a three-dimensional reticulate. The nanostructure laded reticulate provides a high-density storage vehicle for storing significant quantities of molecular gas, such as hydrogen, for use as a fuel, such as in hydrogen fuel cells, which may provide power to vehicles or which may be used in a fixed power environment.
