<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective inspection method for periodontal diseases, and a reagent used in the inspection method. <P>SOLUTION: According to this method, an inspection on the periodontal diseases is performed with the existence of histatin taken as a marker. The measurement of histatin is made possible by using, specifically, an antihistatin antibody, and more specifically, an antibody perceiving a specific arrangement included in polypeptide that constitutes histatin, providing a result that supports an association with periodontal diseases.
