<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce return light to a first optical path in an optical component that adjusts an optical power propagating from the first optical path to a second optical path. <P>SOLUTION: A variable light optical attenuator 100 is equipped with an optical path 26 having an optical axis 16, an optical path 27 having an optical axis 17, and a mirror 21 that moves in directions 32, 33 crossing the bisector 18 of an angle formed by the optical axes 16, 17. On the surface of the mirror 21, there is provided a reflection part 21a that, upon receiving light from an optical path 11, reflects the light to an optical path 12. The reflection part 21a is provided with an edge 21b including a straight line section arranged on a plane substantially vertical to the bisector 18.
